 Position Description: Automation Control Specialist - Associate of Applied Science (AAS)

SUMMARY:
Perform electrical engineering assignments by applying standard engineering practices and principles under the guidance of a Senior Electrical Engineer.  Design products, components, or assigned phases of major projects.  Conduct necessary research to specific design problems.  Recommend design modifications as indicated by test and usage.  
 
Essential Responsibilities: 
  • Develop design layouts for new and revised designs by using or coordinating computer aided design (CAD) techniques.    
  • Ladder logic development for PLC controlled systems and other types of control programming.   
  • Perform electrical calculations including circuit design, conductor sizing, power requirements, PLC scan time considerations and time/motion studies. 
  • Work with Electrical Engineer to promote continual improvements in all aspects of electrical machine design. 
  • Travel to customer facilities to support breakdowns, installations, start-ups, performance runs and the like. International and domestic installations may require extended trip durations to complete all phases of the project.
  • Develop applications of controls, instruments, and systems for new industrial uses. 
  • Direct and coordinate operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems in field installations.
  • Provide technical information to the sales and service departments including assembly, detail, and commercial part numbers.   
  • Perform other Engineering Department related functions as assigned by the Engineering Manager or designate

Qualifications: 
  • Associates degree in a technical field required. Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in a specialized technical field.
  • Minimum five years of experience directly related to designing electro-mechanical equipment for manufacturing environments required. 
  • Experience in the industrial equipment industry required; experience in the design of panels, wood or pulp and paper product handling equipment desired. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, motion and control components required. 
  • Must have experience in industrial electrical design including ladder logic and other control experience preferably on multiple platforms.  
  • Proven proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar CAD system software required.
