Operations Manager - Manufacturing
The Operations Manager is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership across all manufacturing and supply chain functions within the organization. They are accountable for planning, directing and controlling all plant business activities including manufacturing and material management and warehouse functions while overseeing and optimizing all aspects of the supply chain process from procurement of raw materials to production scheduling, inventory management, logistics and distribution.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with suppliers, production, quality and sales teams to improve supply chain performance, minimize waste and enhance overall operational efficiency.
- Will plan, direct and control all plant activities while overseeing and optimizing all aspects of the supply chain process.
- Manage procurement, supplier relationships and contract negotiations/service levels to ensure optimal stock levels, minimal waste, quality and cost effectiveness.
- Construct in consultation with the Financial Manager, the internal requisition and purchasing approvals process.
- Drive Sales, Inventory and Operations (SIOP) demand planning process, including vetting sales demand.
- Lead demand planning, forecasting, and capacity alignment with Sales and Scheduling by coordinating optimal scheduling parameters within the existing ERP system.
- Collect and review production data and targets, with a goal of identifying materials and information flow constraints.
- Oversee procurement, planning, scheduling, logistics, transportation, warehousing (including management of any outside warehousing) and distribution operations.
- Collaborate closely with production, sales, inventory and logistics to align supply with customer demand and production capacity.
- Collaborate with other department leaders to execute the vision/mission tracker annual goals for the corporation.
- Coordinate with the Design and Processing Departments to utilize technical knowledge to optimally route and produce items
- Propose capital investments with ROI calculations that will improve our operational constraints.
- Implement data driven forecasting, scheduling and performance metrics (KPI’s) to improve forecast efficiency for budget and monthly operations adherence.
- Assist HR in matching staffing requirements to production requirements.
- Work to overcome cross training gaps and assist in the succession planning process.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to production supervisors, planners, and other direct reports and drive a fully engaged workforce with focus on safety,
- Responsible for ERP system and master data maintenance and be a main user for updates and system analysis of functionality.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises between eight and fifteen employees. Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include training and coaching employees; assigning and directing work; rewarding and motivating employees, disciplining employees; addressing Corrective Action Reports and resolving problems.
Reports to: General Manager
Direct Reports: 8 to 15 reports (Procurement, board ordering, scheduling, production supervisors, shipping supervisors, hand assembly supervisors, inventory control).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business or similar degree or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have at least three (3) to five (5) years of manufacturing industry experience in managerial role or similar capacity, corrugated or packaging experience is preferred and an asset.
- 3 to 5 years experience in strategic planning and forecasting with proven ability to analyze data and implement effective strategies for cost reduction, quality improvement and on-time delivery.
- Ability to manage fast paced, ISO certified manufacturing environment.
- Proven ability to implement effective strategies for cost reduction, quality improvement and on-time delivery.
- Ability to make presentations and speak effectively before groups of employees, customers and or vendors of the organization.
- Effectively utilize ERP system to perform all the necessary assigned duties, have a good working knowledge of MS Office.
- Drive Sales, Inventory and Operations (SIOP) demand planning process, including vetting sales demand is very important in this role.
